Plaid is a mainstay of the look, as are organic materials like wool, leather, and wood. All are represented on this well-tailored chair with low, easy-going arms and quilted leather cushions. Mr. Van Guilder, for whom the chair is named, was a hunting buddy of Hemingway’s. After he died, Hemingway wrote his eulogy. One of the passages, that spoke of reverence for the outdoors, was later inscribed on a plaque at a Hemingway memorial in Sun Valley.
